1. Finish reading chapter 34.
2. Note how the narrator uses language to express her emotional states. Select one place in the text that is especially touching, effective, awesome, or in any other way emotionally engaging. Write down your reactions to specific phrases in your selection on post-it notes or on a separate sheet of paper. You will share these out in class. The idea is to make you focus on the language of the novel in order to allow you to see how the novelist directs reader-responses to the text (Reader Response Theory).
